Causing A Scene: The Limping Chicken

The Limping Chicken is a independently run deaf news/blogs website and I’m so happy to be in touch with them. I’ve done a little interview for them, but in the meantime this Guardian article written by Charlie Swinbourne, the website’s founder, is absolutely worth a read. (Click here)

The situation Charlie describes in the first paragraph is almost exactly what happened to my Mum and I in August. We checked, double checked and triple checked and still no subtitles. The worrying thing? Charlie wrote this article 5 years ago. I won’t wait another 5 years to easily go to the cinema with my lovely Mum. I’m impatient, but more importantly, I’m right. This isn’t on. (Can you tell that today I’ve mostly been emailing people that make me angry?)

“Until attitudes change, for deaf people, a visit to the cinema will remain a lottery. You might get lucky and have a great night, but there’s a high chance you’ll find yourself disappointed.”

I’m not awfully good at being disappointed.

    Hello,

I found your blog/website via the Limping Chicken article and am very interested in following your campaign. I can’t see a place to “follow” your blog though, to get notified of new posts.

    Thanks!

Liz (hard of hearing, hearing aid user, would love to see more subtitles in cinemas)

Hi Liz, at the moment the best way to follow the blog is just by following the Facebook page (Causing a Scene) and keeping an eye out for new posts. Hopefully soon there’ll be a follow button! I’ll try to remember to let you know when there is!
